The Museum of Fine Arts of Turkmenistan named after the Great Saparmurat Turkmenbashy

       The Museum of Fine Arts of Turkmenistan named after the Great Saparmurat Turkmenbashy was opened on February 17, 2005. The museum building was built by the French company "Bouygues" according to the project of the architect Robert Bello in the style of "palasso" (palace) of the Renaissance. The interior and exterior of the museum have both ancient and modern features. The exposition of the museum is one of the main art centers, designed to present to the general public the ancient art of the country, valuable works created by the first giants of Turkmen fine art, the unique art of modern Turkmen fine and applied art, sculptures and ceramics.

       The exposition includes a complex of valuable unique museum treasures which tell about the history of visual art of Turkmenistan from ancient times, early and medieval times. A collection of unique works created by the first artists which provide extensive information about Turkmen life and art, also present all works of art of the Turkmen people XX-XXI etc., works of fine art such as paintings, graphics, sculptures, jewelry and decorative arts, ceramics and tapestries.

       On the second floor of the museum exposition, the works of artists and sculptors of the XIV-XIX centuries of Italian, French, German, Dutch, English, Spanish, Russian and Eastern peoples, belonging to Western European art, as well as artificial porcelain are displayed.

       In addition, our museum hosts temporary exhibitions. In nowadays, the festive celebrations of our people, who are living in a happy life are increasing day by day. Artifacts from the museum's storage on the basement floor are presented at temporary exhibitions, dedicated to events of state importance and for every holiday. Our museum plays an important role in broadening the horizons of the future young generation of artists and school children in educating the future development of art in our country.

History of museum
1925
The foundation of the Museum of Fine Arts of Turkmenistan was laid as a result of the creation of the Ashgabat Museum of Country Studies in 1925.
1927
Russian artist Academician A. Karelin donated his collection of paintings, graphics, sculptures and applied arts to the museum in 1927. On the basis of these works that an art department was opened in the Ashgabat Museum of National Studies.
1939
As a result of the increase in the art department's collection and its reputation among the population, a decision was made to create an independent Turkmen State Museum of Fine Arts in 1939.
1998
In 1998, the National Museum of History and Ethnography and the Museum of Fine Arts on New Archabil Avenue in Ashgabat were merged to form a new museum collection.
2005
The new building of the Fine Arts Museum named after the Great Saparmurat Turkmenbashi of Turkmenistan was opened on February 17, 2005.
